COOEC Delivers the First Module of Hong Kong's First Integrated Waste Management Facility

Date:2023-02-22

It was learned on February 17 that the super-large prefabricated electromechanical modules of Hong Kong's Integrated Waste Management Facility (IWMF) Phase I constructed at COOEC's Zhuhai site arrived in Hong Kong, marking the successful delivery of key modules of Hong Kong's first IWMF.

The Integrated Waste Management Facility (IWMF) Phase I Project was funded by the Environmental Protection Department of the HKSAR. COOEC-Fluor Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. undertook the prefabrication of 17 electromechanical modules for the project, including 6 boiler modules, 6 flue gas treatment systems and 5 pipe racks with a total weight of 50,000t. As the largest key module among the modules undertaken by COOEC, the module A1 delivered this time, weighing up to 6,000t, is mainly used to convert the heat and steam generated by incineration of waste into electrical energy through the centralized waste incineration system, the first one of its kind across the world, integrating conveyance, mixing and forced draft independent of each other and the application of advanced technologies such as flue gas denitrification, with the emissions meeting international standards.

The main structures of the project are all connected by bolting, with high construction quality standard. During construction of the project, digital and intelligent management was actively promoted, and beam clamps were used for the first time to connect structural members to reduce on-site drilling and paint repairs. The quality and safety control was strengthened to realize 5.4 million working hours of zero-injury operation, the acceptance rate of inspection was over 99% and the first pass yield of welding was over 98%, laying a solid foundation for the high-quality delivery of the project.
